GROWTH / MAINTENANCE

Growth Maintenance - Transformational Distinction

In a transformational context, maintenance and growth are often used to describe two different mindsets or approaches to life.

Maintenance refers to the tendency of our automatic responses and rackets to uphold and maintain our current experience, beliefs, thinking, and reality. It is characterized by a sense of inevitability that can ultimately result in resignation or even regression. Essentially, maintenance is the act of sustaining what already exists or preserving the status quo.

Growth, on the other hand, is the process of expanding our capacity to experience and create new possibilities. It requires a willingness to take risks, explore new ideas and ways of being, and stretch beyond our comfort zone. Growth involves developing new skills, expanding our perspective, and deepening our self-awareness. It also involves a shift in our fundamental way of being, rather than simply acquiring new knowledge or skills.

The main difference between maintenance and growth is that maintenance involves sustaining what already exists, while growth involves expanding and evolving beyond current limitations.

In the transformational arena and in training, [re] WIRED for Peace, it is often emphasized that we need to shift from operating in what we call the maintenance cycle and instead operate in the growth cycle to achieve our full potential. This requires confronting and dissolving limiting beliefs and assumptions, taking responsibility for our life and choices, and embracing new possibilities. By adopting a growth mindset, we can expand our capacity to create and experience new possibilities in our lives.
